GB Tech quickly supports Jacobs Technology with NASA Controlled Hardware Inventory Project

The Challenge

Jacobs Technology needed quick turn around on an inventory project at NASA’s Johnson Space Center (JSC).

They looked for an experienced company to perform a 100 percent physical inventory of approximately 42,000 line items consisting of approximately 3 million piece parts of controlled hardware. The project consisted of an anticipated 11,000 total labor hours. An accelerated schedule required that all of the work be completed within an ambitious two-month period.

Additionally, because of the security issues involved in working at a NASA facility, all personnel needed to be recruited, screened, tested, certified in ESD (electrostatic discharge) handling procedures, and badged prior to beginning work.

The Solution

GB Tech assessed the scope of the project and determined the appropriate personnel requirements to complete the job. It was able to develop a strategy, provide a project manager and arrange for a personnel team made up of individuals with the proper inventory and data entry experience to work on the project. In order to ensure the project completed on schedule, GB Tech proposed a two-shift solution.

The urgency of the customer required an extremely rapid response. GB Tech responded to the request for proposal, advised Jacobs on proposed solution, received notice to proceed, and provided project management and a full crew for training and badging within one week of the RFP.

The Results

GB Tech was able to quickly scale up its logistics team in order to successfully support Jacobs with verification of government property at the Johnson Space Center. The project was completed six weeks ahead of schedule and 50 percent under budget due to GB Tech’s experience and commitment to customer service.
